Stability AI, the creator of the Stable Diffusion image model and the newly released Stable Audio 3.0 music suite, disclosed a $76 million Series B financing on Aug. 25, 2026. The round, announced from Los Angeles, lifts the company’s cumulative capital to $232 million since Prem Akkaraju became CEO in June 2024.

The new capital pool includes a fresh cohort of entertainment-industry investors, Electronic Arts, Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures, alongside existing backers such as Coatue, Greycroft, Kadmos Capital, Sean Parker and Eric Schmidt. The funding will be used to expand Stability AI’s creative-production tools, deepen applied research, and grow its professional services arm.

Investor lineup signals deepening ties between AI and entertainment

The investor roster reads like a who’s-who of the entertainment ecosystem. Gaming leader Electronic Arts joins the round, echoing its earlier strategic partnership with Stability AI to co-develop generative tools for game creators. Music powerhouses Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group each took equity positions, reinforcing alliances forged in 2025 when Universal and Warner signed strategic agreements to co-develop responsibly trained AI music tools.

Existing venture partners Coatue, Greycroft, Kadmos Capital, as well as individual backers Sean Parker and Eric Schmidt, participated again, marking a second consecutive investment. Stability AI’s board now includes Coatue co-founder Thomas Laffont, joining James Cameron, Sean Parker, Greycroft’s Dana Settle and CEO Prem Akkaraju, underscoring the blend of tech, media and creative expertise steering the company.

Stability AI’s CEO Prem Akkaraju framed the investor mix as “an affirmation of our vision where generative AI empowers every producer, musician, and storyteller,” noting that the backers bring not only capital but also “expertise, credibility, and direct connection to artists.”

Stable Audio 3.0 launches as the flagship product for music creators

Coinciding with the funding announcement, Stability AI released Stable Audio 3.0, a family of open-weight music models trained exclusively on fully licensed data. The suite includes Small, Medium and Large variants, with the Small and Medium models available for free download on Hugging Face and the Large model accessible via the Stability AI API for enterprise deployments. Artists can integrate the models into digital audio workstations through a new plugin or use the web interface at StableAudio.com.

Stable Audio 3.0 introduces variable-length generation up to six minutes, full-track composition on portable devices, and audio-inpainting tools that let creators edit or extend sections of a track without restarting. The open-weight models are released under the Stability AI Community License, granting users ownership of outputs and the ability to commercialize them, a point highlighted as a differentiator from other generative audio offerings that restrict commercial use.

The launch aligns with the company’s broader strategy to build “artist-centric AI” that delivers a superior experience on licensed platforms. By partnering with Universal, Sony and Warner, Stability AI aims to embed these tools directly into artists’ workflows, offering legal certainty and revenue-sharing mechanisms that address longstanding concerns over copyright and unlicensed training data.

🤙 Curator’s Note

Los Angeles is fast becoming a hub where AI meets Hollywood, gaming studios and the music business. Stability AI’s infusion of capital from EA, Sony, Universal and Warner signals a local ecosystem that can prototype next-gen creative tools without leaving the city, potentially attracting talent, studios and label tech teams to LA’s tech-creative corridor.
