Chicas Tacos Opens on The Strand in Hermosa Beach, on the Back Patio of the Former Poop Deck

The Los Angeles taco brand founded by chef Eduardo Ruiz in 2016 opened its Hermosa Beach counter at The Deck, 1272 The Strand, with a grand-opening party on Saturday, August 15, and now serves carne asada, beer-battered fish, shrimp, chicken, braised pork and plant-based tacos daily from 11:30 AM to 8 PM, steps from the sand.

Chicas Tacos is on the sand. The Los Angeles taco brand opened a Hermosa Beach counter on the back patio of The Deck at 1272 The Strand, and marked it on Saturday, August 15 with a grand-opening party from 1 to 4 PM plus a pop-up beach lounge out front the company called the Chicas Beach Oasis. The counter is now open daily from 11:30 AM to 8 PM.

The address carries weight in Hermosa. The Deck is the renovated former Poop Deck, one of the oldest oceanfront bars on The Strand, and its own site is blunt about the lineage. Chicas takes the back patio, which puts a taco counter about as close to the water as the city allows.

What they are serving

Chef Eduardo Ruiz founded Chicas Tacos in Los Angeles in 2016 around a version of the Southern California street taco built on hand-pressed corn tortillas and slow-braised meats.

The company also runs a Miracle Mile location at 800 S. La Brea Avenue, tucked inside All Season Brewing beneath the old Firestone building sign. Hermosa is the beach outpost.

The 21-and-over wrinkle

The Deck is a 21-and-over venue, which matters if you are bringing kids to a taco counter on a Saturday. During the grand opening, families could eat at the public tables next door or out at the Chicas Beach Oasis instead, per the announcement Patch reported.

Worth confirming before you plan a family lunch around it. The counter sits inside a bar, and bar rules govern the patio.
