Chef Coskun Abik has brought Blind Butcher to Melrose Avenue, expanding the San Francisco concept to Los Angeles for the first time. The menu carries the signatures of the original: hand-cut prime steaks, fresh seafood, and California produce. Abik also runs Ophelia in Los Gatos and built a following on the Northern California culinary scene before making the move south.

San Damián Brings the Pacific to the Westside

Esdras Ochoa and the team behind Damian in the Arts District have opened San Damián in Venice, carrying the restaurant's Pacific Coast philosophy to the Westside. The menu runs the Sinaloa-to-Baja corridor: seafood close to the fire, raw preparations built on crushed ice, and citrus-forward crudo in the Baja-California tradition. CineOpera Opens with a 170-Inch Screen and an Italian-Latin Menu

Muy Salsa Hospitality has transformed the former LA Cha Cha Chá rooftop on E 3rd Street into CineOpera, an all-day restaurant and cocktail bar built around a 170-inch LED movie screen. Chef Francisco Moran, raised in Watts and Koreatown, built the menu around Diego Maradona's years playing for Napoli, blending housemade pastas and schiacciata sandwiches with Latin flavors. Santa Canela pastries anchor the morning counter, and an on-site bottle shop lets diners open wine at the table for a ten-dollar corkage. The room is open Wednesday through Sunday with no reservations required.

LA28 Ticket Registration Climbs to 12 Million

Ticket registration for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games has climbed to 12 million, up 5 million since February, making this the largest early demand signal in Olympic history. LA28's current Visa presale runs through Friday for selected cardholders, while fans who do not get a slot are automatically entered into Drop 2 from August 10 to 20, with selection emails expected August 6 and 7. Developer Pivots to Affordable Housing on Crenshaw

Los Angeles-based developer Eleos has revised plans for a vacant lot at 7715 South Crenshaw Boulevard, replacing a mixed-income proposal with 187 fully income-restricted apartments. The updated program reserves 148 units for low-income households and 38 for moderate-income residents, with one market-rate manager's unit and 4,936 square feet of ground-floor retail. Kevin Tsai Architecture is designing the podium-style building, which carries the same massing from the 2025 proposal. Eleos is developing several larger affordable projects across South Los Angeles.

A four-story, 93-unit apartment building has been approved for a five-lot site at 8465 North Glenoaks Boulevard in Sun Valley. The building centers on larger units, with 58 two-bedrooms and seven three-bedrooms alongside studios and one-bedrooms, targeting families in a part of the Valley where large-unit inventory is limited. Nineteen of the apartments are reserved as affordable housing for 55 years, split between low-income and very-low-income tiers. Unigraphics is the project architect for applicant Glenoaks Hills Rentals Inc.
