4-DAY FORECAST Β· LA
π§οΈ DISCUSSION: A cool, cloudy Cinco de Mayo opens with lingering morning shower chances before clearing to mostly sunny skies, then a sharp warm-up Wednesday through Friday as high pressure builds in. Highs jump roughly 13Β° from Tuesday to Thursday, with inland valleys flirting with 90Β° by Friday. The coast holds onto patchy May Gray clouds, so beach plans benefit from the afternoon sun. EAST HOLLYWOOD FOCA
Karo Mkhitarian's beloved Kar Sweet on Melrose just spun off a savory sister concept, and FOCA is the dreamy result. Fresh-baked focaccia sandwiches arrive crispy on the outside and pillow-soft inside, layered with prosciutto and goat cheese on the Soft Power, or whipped feta and olive tapenade on the Chicken Focaccia. The plant-draped patio and front bar seating make this a legitimately swoony hideout for a slow Melrose afternoon. Armenian skill, Italian heart, and a sunny East Hollywood corner all in one warm little shack. |
|
SANTA MONICA THE WIN~DOW
The cult Venice smashburger window is finally heading north this month, taking over the beloved Go Get Em Tiger spot at 930 Montana Ave. The signature $4.50 cheeseburger anchors a tight menu of fried chicken sandwiches, $8 grain bowls, and hand-spun shakes, with a brand-new weekend breakfast of egg-topped burgers and burritos exclusive to this Montana outpost. Fifty seats, an indoor-outdoor lounge layout, and original murals from LA artist KC Haxton make the seventh location feel deliberately, lovingly Westside. Paul Hibler and the American Gonzo crew behind Pitfire Pizza, Superba, and American Beauty are running it, so the pedigree is real. |
|
LONG BEACH THE SUNRISE SHACK
The North Shore of OΚ»ahu's beloved superfood cafe finally crossed the Pacific this Valentine's Day, dropping its first US mainland location near Long Beach City College at 4501 E Carson Street. Founded in 2016 by Hawaiian pro surfers Travis, Koa, and Alex Smith with Koa Rothman, the shack serves the same colorful Acai Bowls, Monkey Bowls of banana with peanut butter and cacao nibs, Tropical Bowls, bullet coffee, and turkey-avo aioli sandwiches that built its island cult following. Long Beach is the brand's California flagship, with ten SoCal territories already sold and rolling out across the next few years. Surf-shack vibes, a fat Hawaiian mural, and an open-daily 7am to 6pm rhythm that makes it equally great for morning fuel or an afternoon reset. |

ARTS DISTRICT + BOYLE HEIGHTS sixth street viaduct parc
The grass is finally in the ground beneath the Sixth Street Viaduct, where the 12-acre park is taking shape on both banks of the LA River. Designed by Hargreaves Jones, the $82-million PARC (short for Park, Arts, and River Connectivity) splits seven acres of Arts District riverfront with a performance lawn, dog park, and fitness equipment, plus another five Boyle Heights acres with sports fields, picnic areas, and event space. The Arts District corner anchors the new Leonard Hill Arts Plaza, named for the late Linear City partner whose donation helped fund the build, and will eventually connect to a Bjarke Ingels tower complex, an extended LA River bike path, and a future Metro B + D Line stop at 6th Street. Genuinely transformative infrastructure, finally above ground. |

HOLLYWOOD sag-aftra & studios reach new dealHollywood exhaled this weekend as SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP reached a tentative four-year agreement on a successor to the 2023 TV/Theatrical Contracts, concluding talks this past Saturday without anything resembling another work stoppage. The deal covers motion pictures, scripted primetime dramatic television, streaming content, and new media, and reportedly includes expanded artificial-intelligence protections that executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland refused to soften, plus a bump to the guild's pension fund. Negotiations opened February 9th, paused in March to give the Writers Guild room to land its own deal, and resumed April 27th before crossing the finish line over the weekend. The agreement now heads to the SAG-AFTRA National Board for review and ultimately a ratification vote among the union's 160,000 members. |

PURPLE & GOLD LAKERS OPEN SEMIFINALS AT THUNDER TONIGHTThe Lakers tip off Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals tonight in Oklahoma City after closing out the Houston Rockets in six games to reach the second round. Center Deandre Ayton becomes the matchup to watch, tasked with neutralizing the Thunder's twin towers Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein in what The Times called the move that "changes our ceiling." The defending-champion Thunder enter as the West's top seed, but LA quietly improved on both ends across the first round and is feeling loose heading into the seven-game test. The series swings home to Crypto.com Arena for Games 3 and 4 on this Saturday and next Monday. |

DODGER STADIUM dodgers off to historic startThe two-time defending World Series champions sit 21-13 atop the NL West, and Shohei Ohtani picked up his first career Pitcher of the Month award Monday after posting a 0.60 ERA across his first five starts back in a full-time pitching role. The two-way star went 2-1 with 34 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .160 average in March and April, fueling early NL Cy Young chatter before the calendar even turned. Center fielder Andy Pages has carried the offense alongside him, hitting .337 with 5 home runs and 24 RBI through his breakout age-25 campaign. The Blue Crew continues a three-game series in Houston Monday through Wednesday before swinging back to Chavez Ravine. |
