The Burbank Public Library announced on August 28, 2026 that it will roll out three limited-edition library cards featuring Nickelodeon franchises, in partnership with Nickelodeon Our World, as the centerpiece of this year’s National Library Card Sign-up Month.

The cards will be available at all Burbank Public Library locations beginning in September while supplies last, and both new patrons and existing cardholders can choose a design or exchange their current card.

## Nickelodeon partnership brings three limited-edition designs

The library’s collaboration with Nickelodeon Our World was highlighted by Mayor Tamala Takahashi, who called the partnership a wonderful example of the creativity that makes Burbank a special community.

The three designs showcase artwork from the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Teeny Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Library Services Director Eric Lashley noted that the cards celebrate characters generations have grown up with while reminding residents that a library card unlocks a world of stories and lifelong learning.

Cards will be distributed at every Burbank Public Library branch starting in September, and availability is limited to the duration of the National Library Card Sign-up Month campaign.

## Library Card Sign-up Month highlights services and how to obtain a card

National Library Card Sign-up Month, observed each September, promotes the many free resources a library card provides, including books, movies, music, eBooks, audiobooks, online learning platforms, research databases, study-room reservations, and access to the Spark! Digital Media Lab.

Residents and non-residents of Burbank can obtain a free card by presenting photographic proof of identity and proof of residence, as outlined on the library’s card page, and children under 18 must have a parent’s signature on the application.

Patrons may apply in person at any of the three branches, Central, Buena Vista, or Northwest, or start an eCard application online if they reside in Los Angeles County.

## Curator's Note

For Angelenos, especially families in the San Fernando Valley, the new Nickelodeon cards turn a routine library sign-up into a playful cultural moment, reinforcing the library’s role as a community hub where kids can connect their favorite cartoons to real-world learning resources.
